Do you have a passion for indoor rock climbing and enjoy working with kids? The Boulder Rock Club is hiring assistant youth instructors for our after-school Youth Climbing Clubs. This position requires afternoon availability between 3:45-7:15PM at least three days/week, with potential for some weekend work. 

  • Job Title: Assistant Youth Indoor Rock Climbing Instructor
  • Position Type: Part-time
  • Pay rate: $19.50 per hour to start

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the supervision and facilitation of groups of children ranging in age from 6-17.
  • Coordinate with lead instructor and co-instructors to implement activities for climbing club and/or day-off-school camp sessions.
  • Teach climbing safety and technical skills such as top-rope belaying, bouldering falls, gym etiquette, and basic climbing technique to youth aged 6-17.
  • Communicate with the Lead Youth Instructor regarding expectations, progress, and behavior/risk management issues.
  • Top-rope belay participants and manage a bouldering environment during programs.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

The perfect candidate for this position: 

  • Has prior experience working with children ages 6-17.
  • Is able to pass the BRC top-rope belay certification test.
  • Can lift and hold a minimum of 20 lbs above your head.
  • Can stand on feet for long durations (1 hour +) on uneven surfaces.
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic and enjoys problem-solving in real time.
  • Understands basic climbing techniques & technical systems related to top-rope climbing.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to work all or most of the club/camp sessions assigned to them.
  • Can effectively communicate and collaborate with other peer instructors and adult management.
  • All applicants must be 16 years or older for employment at Boulder Rock Club.
